EdgeDP is a specialist D-Cinema production facility. Purpose built, and opened in 2010, EdgeDP specialises in Content Creation, Content Encoding and Content Distribution for Digital Cinema. This content can be for Cinema pre-show, the Cinema lobby screens, and alternative displays, such as the digital screens in Food and Beverage areas.

Content conversion and enconding

We can supply encoding services, to convert any supplied format to Digital Cinema DCP format. Whilst EdgeDP can convert any format to a DCP, there are considerable savings possible by supplying content in preferred formats...

Distribution

EdgeDP can arrange dispatch and distribution of your files locally, nationally, or internationally. Depending on requirements the files can delivered electronically, or physically on drives. Satellite distribution can also be arranged...

  • January , 2012

    Edge DP has formed a new alliance with Chinese Language Film Distributor China Lion. The first collaboration on the block buster Viral Factor saw Edge DP editing the international trailer for United States and Canadian audiences, as well as providing the 5.1 sound mix and DCP creation.   • December, 2011 - Kermit the Frog comes to Sydney!

    He might be famous for saying it’s not easy being green but when Kermit the Frog came down under to promote his new movie The Muppets he was certainly easy to work with. Edge DP provided the host Sami Lukis and created Holding Slides for the Cinema Screens.

  • December, 2011 - The Fairies Christmas Ballet

    Christmas came early at Edge DP when together with Hare Brained Ideas we filmed The Fairies Christmas Ballet Live at the State Theatre. Edge DP completed the feature length production including editing grading and sound mixing in our Kent St studios. The DCP was created and screened in cinemas in Australia, New Zealand and the UK over the Christmas period to the delight of thousands of little fairies fans.

  • September, 2011

    Australia’s favourite leading man Hugh Jackman hit the red carpet on George Street for the premiere of his new film Real Steel. Edge DP provided the host Darren McMullen and organized the coverage of the red carpet, which was uploaded to Disney in the US that night. Phew!

  • July, 2011 - Harry Potter World Exclusive Content

    As the world prepared to be swept up in Harry Potter fever here at Edge DP we were putting the finishing touches on a Digital Cinema Print of 4 minutes of Behind the Scenes content world exclusive to Event Cinemas, Greater Unions and Birch Carroll and Coyle.

    We enlisted the help of Event TV host James Tobin and filmed him against a green screen at our in-house studio. Then using our pool of design talent we created a short piece that introduced the Exclusive content to the Harry Potter fans and encouraged those fans to share their thoughts on the franchise on our Harry Potter to the Max facebook page.

    The result was that Event Cinemas, Greater Union and Birch Carroll & Coyle became THE place for Harry Potter cinema goers to see the final installment and share their feelings about it.

  • June, 2011 - MyThredbo

    EdgeDP undertook the post-production of the MyThredbo cinema commercial, in conjunction with Film Construction and Tongue Advertising. Directed by David Wood, we completed the edit and produced digital and film masters at 4k resolution.

  • May, 2011 - Water For Elephants Premiere

    In May EdgeDP coordinated a live broadcast of the Water for Elephants red carpet premiere at the State Theatre. It was one of Australia’s biggest ever film premieres, with the longest recorded red carpet that stretched 300 metres into Pitt Street mall. There were 2000 guests attending and over 5000 fans Juneturned up to see the movie’s stars Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson. All of the action from the red carpet, including the stars’ arrivals and interviews by Event TV host Sami Lukis, were captured by 5 camera crews, edited on the fly and streamed live into 30 cinemas around Australia. The video package we edited for the website has received a whopping nearly 20,000 hits.

  • Pocket Cinema PayPal Commercial

    To announce the ability to purchase cinema tickets via Paypal using the App for your i-phone or i-pad, EdgeDP created a 30 sec stereoscopic cinema commercial. It was fully produced by EdgeDP to a brief by Tongue Advertising. Using the SILICON IMAGING SI-2K Digital Cinema camera, we filmed live sequences in the cinema and in our green screen studio in stereoscopic cinema resolution, and composited and edited these for both 3D digital masters and 2D film prints.

    Exclusive pre-show cinema packages are released for the promotion of Gulliver’s Travels and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Dawn Treader, featuring the films’ stars.

  • October, 2010

    AHL celebrates 100 years in business with an impressive Centenary Conference. Edge DP produced all the audio-visual presentation content, including a history reel documenting the evolution of the company. All content was shot and mastered in 2K DCP format.

    Edge DP produce a 3D cinema commercial to promote the launch of Pocket Cinema – the ticket booking application for i-phones and i-pads.

    Edge DP are the proud owners of a new DVS Clipster – to enable even faster DCP encoding and realtime processing of RED RAW 2K and 4K footage.

    Event Cinemas New Zealand is launched – with the help of our newly designed Event Boy and Event Girl. Modified Event Cinemas logo animations are provided in both digital and print form to support the campaign.

    The studio encodes DCPs of reality TV series The Hills for New Zealand Event Cinemas.

  • May 2010

    We successfully coordinated a live satellite link of the Prince of Persia premiere and press conference in London to a rapt audience at the George Street Event Cinemas.

  • May 2010

    The first ever pre-show cinema package is edited and released in both digital and print form across Event, Greater Union, Birch Carroll & Coyle, and Village circuits. Featuring a combination of personalized introductions, interviews with Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, and behind-the-scenes footage from Robin Hood, it played prior to screenings of Avatar and Clash of the Titans.

    One of our first projects is to produce the first edition of the cinema foyer entertainment show, newly rebranded Event TV, and released in time for the Xmas holidays.
